FLCC Newsletter #51 - April 2014

The FLCC Executive would like to thank Jonathan Wilkins for all the years he put together the Newsletter for the club to help keep everyone informed. His contributions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your work!

We are looking for a new name for our newsletter. If you have any suggestions, please send them to our Commodore, Susan at: commodore@fortlangleycanoeclub.ca

May we introduce...the new FLCC logo!

That wonderful banner of an historic voyageur canoe set against the iconic Fort has been identified these past twenty years with great Fort Langley Canoe Club paddling. Paddlers engaged in leisurely explorations of Lower Mainland rivers and lakes as well as those pursuing excellence at the numerous local and international regattas have worn it with pride.
Our club has grown hugely in numbers and paddling disciplines over the past twenty years and, to some degree, also outgrown our original voyageur roots represented in the existing logo. To better represent our vital, energetic and multifaceted club, the FLCC 2014 executive made the bold decision to update our logo. A Pat Calder original design was selected, with the iconic Fort a key element in the new design.

The stylized active paddler reflects the club’s energy and membership. The overall graphic, with its powerful wave and striking diagonal lines, emphasizes forward movement……mirroring the growth our club has achieved and the challenges that lie ahead. Fresh colorful graphics provide strong visual appeal. The changing blue color gradient symbolizes the mighty Fraser in all its moods. Our new logo proudly displays the names of each division alphabetically under the anchoring FLCC banner. We expect that it will look great on all types of club clothing. Please contact Grant, Denise, Julie and Katherine, your division coordinators, for digital copies of the new logo in full four color or black and white! We, your 2014 FLCC executive, hope you like it! A new fresh look for 2014!

Notes from FLCC Executive:

"Spring is the season for new growth and change. Your 2014 Executive, along with several very dedicated volunteers have been working very hard on the club's behalf on a number of new initiatives. Here's what come to fruition this month. The FLCC now has a new public face with our wonderfully refreshed website, updated logo and revised Newsletter. Joyce is our webmaster and Charles, our new Newsletter editor. The website has a totally different look and feel. Several administrative functions such as payment for membership will be managed through the website once it is fully operational. Changes to the way the Executive communicates to the membership are in now place. Executive meeting minutes, for example, are now available and archived on the FLCC website on the Executive page.
Cec, in her executive role as FLCC Secretary, has taken on the duties of Membership Registrar. Club Membership is from January 1- December 31. Submit membership forms and payment to Cec. A reminder to everyone: paddlers using club boats must be paid up members or drop in's with a signed waiver for our insurance policy to remain valid. Team managers / captains are responsible for ensuring paddlers in their boats are members."

Congrats to Cheryl & Glenn

Cheryl Macintosh and Glenn Howes received the Township of Langley Arnason Award April 3 at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation & Awards evening. The award was created in memory of Muriel and John Arnason to recognize two volunteers who serve together to make the Township of Langley a great place to live and work. Volunteers give without expecting anything in return, think of others first and make the world a better place for all of us. Volunteers are the heart of the community. Congratulations, Cheryl and Glenn from all of us at the Fort Langley Canoe Club. Well done! We are very proud of you both!
Cheers, Susan on behalf of the FLCC executive
