WEATHER ALERT -- winter weather is here with sub-zero temperatures, wind chill and forecast snow.  Hypothermia is a real risk and concern (see club website for video:  "Cold Water Bootcamp").  Please use good judgment and seriously consider cancelling your paddling session due to wintry conditions.  Ramps and, especially docks, will be VERY slippery so be careful of your footing when using them.  Keep tuned to the club's FB page, website and email blasts for potential closure of the docks due to serious exposure and/or snowfall conditions.

More snow on the way for the South Coast and Vancouver Island...

An intense Pacific storm will reach the South Coast on Thursday. With cold Arctic air entrenched, the storm will likely bring significant snowfall to the South Coast. Snow will begin over Vancouver Island Thursday afternoon and over the Lower Mainland early Thursday evening. Strong winds are also expected with this storm.

On Friday snow in low lying coastal communities will probably change to rain. However, for communities at higher elevation areas or inland, precipitation will remain in the form of snow.

A significant influx of milder Pacific air is not expected this weekend and a mix of of rain and snow is forecast across the south coast Saturday and Sunday. More snow is possible next week, too.

With no significant warming trend in sight, any new snow will likely remain on the ground for several days.

As the storm details more become clear, this statement will be updated and may be upgraded to a weather warning.
