WOMEN WITH A PURPOSE

While our focus is on pursuing good health and team building through competitive dragon boating, we hope to inspire seniors everywhere to participate in any sport as a means of leading a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle.

Dragon boat racing is one of the fastest growing sports in Canada and around the world.

TITANIUM was formed in 2012 when a small group of senior ladies from the Fort Langley Canoe Club were inspired to form a dragon boat team of women over 60 years of age.

This was in response to the International Dragon Boat Federation creating this new competitive category called Senior C – for age 60 plus.

The goal was to qualify and compete in the first Senior C division of the World Club Crew Championships in Ravenna, Italy in 2014.  This highly dedicated group of ladies is driven and motivated by the desire to compete – – locally, nationally and internationally.

To acheive this goal we train year round on the Fraser River. Our dragon boat practices focus on timing, technique and power. Cross training in the outrigger canoe builds cardio and endurance and complementary dry land gym workouts blend flexibility with strength specific to paddling.

We have competed at all the local regattas throughout the dragon boat seasons since 2013 and have proven to be fierce competition against all age groups.

Major Achievements to date:
2013- National Club Crew Championships – BRONZE
2015- Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival – GOLD
2015- National Club Crew Championships – BRONZE
2015 – BC Senior Games – GOLD

The Bronze medal win at the Canadian National Club Crew Championships in Welland, Ontario in June 2015 has now opened the door to our second international competition – the World Club Crew Dragon Boat Championships in April of 2016 in Adelaide, Australia. “We Believe”

Our Future
The joy of competing and placing so well on the World stage has inspired the team to continue to “believe” in our strengths, our training, our teammates and our goals. Titanium’s next goal is the 2015 Canadian National Club Crew Championships in Welland, Ontario on June 26-29. This will open the door to the next World Championships in 2016 in Adelaide, Australia.

Our Purpose
Proving what is possible to ourselves and to others has been the team’s incentive and purpose. Encouraging another competitive dragon boat team of seniors, men as well as women is another goal we have realized with the newly formed TITANIUM Mixed Senior C team.

Our focus is on pursuing good health and a full life through competitive dragon boat racing and our message hopes to inspire all seniors in our community to participate in sport to promote a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle.
