OC News

This is a general call out for River Run Volunteers. Members needed to help out with the following duties: Boat unloading and rigging 7:00 -8:30 am, Admin setup 7:00-8:00 am, Dock helpers 9:00am –3:00 pm various shifts, Admin tear down 3:00-4:00 pm (tentative), Boat de- rigging and loading 3:00 pm (tentative), and other various duties. With an ever expanding division, plans are underway for the formation of an OC committee which will be responsible for all aspects of outrigger operations. Some areas to be addressed will include development of a divisional strategic plan, safety policies, future divisional direction, and day to day operations. The division has grown and progressed to a point where input and assistance from a group of enthusiastic OC paddlers is required if we are to move our division forward. Please reply to ocrep@fortlangleycanoeclub.ca by April 15th if you are interested in helping the FLCC OC division become everything it can be. Once responses are received a meeting will be scheduled.

In an effort to facilitate better interdivisional communication, we are looking at implementing a few changes on the FLCC website. These will include a News tab for general information and upcoming events, and a Forum tab where members can post messages of paddling related nature and connect with one another. The details are still being worked out so stay tuned.

If you are interested in purchasing, or better yet, selling Spring Hanging Baskets as part of an OC fundraiser, please contact ocrep@fortlangleycanoeclub.ca for information. Promotion via Clearview Nurseries.  Baskets are $25.

Voyageur Happenings

March was a busy month for the Voyageurs. In addition to their Saturday morning paddles, the Tuesday evening paddles began on March 15.Tuesday evening paddles now start at 5pm4:45 meet time at paddlesport dock. On March 12 we all enjoyed a trip to the Golden Ears Bridge followed by a smokie roast at Derby Reach. Many thanks to George and Kathy Rodham and Ron Fawcett for having everything all prepared when we arrived. We also welcomed new members to the Canoe Club. Looking forward to next month with a pot luck planned at Kanaka Creek

Sprint Program

The Sprint Team has been making great improvements and working hard this past winter. We are gearing up for the Spring and Summer offering a range of beginner programs, beginning in May. The Sprint Team had a great showing at our first competition, The Slalom Icebreaker Series where 2 out of our 5 athletes received medals in their age category.  Over spring break we participated in a training camp with neighbouring Burnaby Canoe Club. We had a group of 15 paddlers who completed up to 20km in one session! We are looking forward to a busy Spring and Summer racing season with our Team heading to our first regatta in Maple Ridge on April 30th.  All are welcome to the Sprint Try-It-Day on May 14th.  This is a great chance to get on the water and try your hand in sprint boats!
